Overview:
Level 2 Umpires are accredited to officiate at club, centre, regional and national events. A Level 2 Umpire will be an experienced umpire who has developed their skills and knowledge as a Level 1 Umpire. You will see Level 2 Umpires officiating at events such as regional representative events and national championships.
Prerequisites:
Level 2 Umpires are expected to have previous umpiring experience and a high degree of competence in their knowledge of the laws and use of measuring equipment.
You will need to be a member of a bowling club in New Zealand and have the support from your local umpires group.
Training:
Preparing for accreditation as a Level 2 Umpire is not managed by way of a formal training programme, as is the case for Level 1 Umpires. Level 2 candidates are expected to have a higher degree of competency, awareness, skill and experience in both the application of the Laws of the Sport of Bowls and the use of measuring equipment. It is recommended Level 2 candidates connect with the tutors in their umpires group to ensure they are fully up-to-date on all Laws and measuring techniques.
Accreditation:
Candidates will sit an exam once they feel confident and ready.
The laws exam comprises 20 questions which cover more complex situations and areas of dispute. This will be in an oral, closed book format
The measuring exam comprises 8 scenarios covering common practical scenarios.
Candidates need to achieve a 90% pass-rate in both exams to be a Level 2 Umpire.
Re-Accreditation:
Every four years umpires who wish to remain accredited will sit the Level 2 exam.
