High Performance Squad

High Performance Squad is the main selection group for further Blackjacks honours. The athletes are selected for this squad by the National Selectors and coaches.

Asia Pacific Championships

Asia Pacific Championships take place in Broadbeach Bowling Club from the 18-28 June 2019. This event is a qualification event for World Champs with the disciplines being singles, pairs, triples and fours. The top four in each section go through to quarter finals with five male and five female Blackjacks selected from New Zealand (named above).


World Champion of Champion Singles

First introduced in 2003 and this year held in Adelaide, Australia from the 28th of October to the 3rd November 2019. This event is contested annually between bowlers who have won their respective National Singles titles.


Hong Kong Classic

Two male and two female athletes get selected to represent their countries at this International event in Hong Kong each year. New Zealand have fared well at the event with multiple winners in both singles and pairs for men’s and women’s sections. This year held from the 9-17 November 2019.


Multi Nations

Multi Nations is organised every two years usually one year prior to World Champs and Commonwealth Games. Up to eight Nations participate and the format follows exactly what happens at each of the aforementioned pinnacle events. New Zealand select five male and five female athletes for their team. This year the event will be held in the Gold Coast of Australia from the 18-24 November 2019.

Trans Tasman 2019

Annual event played alternatively in New Zealand and Australia depending on the location of pinnacle events. This year due to the World Champs being held in the Gold Coast so too will the Trans Tasmin Test Series from the 25-27 of November, 2019 and again in February, 2020 from the 3-5.


Three test matches are played over 3 consecutive days. At each event there will be the main event with the open teams, five men and five women. In addition, a development team and para team can be selected.

World Cup Indoor Singles

World Cup Indoor Singles is an annual event where each member nation selects one male and one female athlete to participate. The Event is held in March at the Warilla Bowls and Recreation Club. We have our very own Indoor World Cup legend, Jo Edwards who has won the title an unbelievable 5 times.


World Champs 2020

The pinnacle event of bowls…our “Olympics”. Held every four years, five male and five female athletes are selected for the team. 2008 was the first year both men and women competed together in Christchurch. New Zealand competed admirably winning six medals, four gold and two bronze. At the same venue in 2016, New Zealand matched this performance winning seven medals, two gold, one silver and four bronze medals! Bring on the Gold Coast from the 18th of May to the 7th of June, 2020.
