New Zealand will be proudly represented on the world stage when Blackjacks #54 Tayla Bruce and #99 Shannon Mcilroy compete at the World Bowls Indoor Championship, to be held in Ocean Grove, Victoria, Australia, in May 2026.
Their selection follows top international form, highlighted by podium‑finishing Singles performances at the 7 Nations Cup in Malaysia in February 2026. Shannon Mcilroy claimed the silver medal, while Tayla Bruce secured bronze, underlining their ability to perform at the highest level against elite international opposition.
These results played a key role in the selection process, reflecting both athletes’ consistency, competitive strength, and readiness for major championship competition.
Tayla Bruce’s bronze‑medal performance in Malaysia showcased her composure and precision on the international stage, while Shannon Mcilroy once again demonstrated his experience and tactical excellence on his way to a silver‑medal finish.
“Being selected to represent New Zealand is a huge honour,” said Bruce. “Winning bronze at the 7 Nations Cup gave me a lot of confidence, and I’m excited to take that momentum into the World Bowls Indoor Championship.”
Mcilroy added, “The 7 Nations Cup was a strong test, and to come away with silver was very satisfying. Representing New Zealand at another world event is something I’m incredibly proud of. Tayla and I have unfinished business at this after competing together in Guernsey two years ago so we are pumped and ready to give it our all.”
The World Bowls Indoor Championship is one of the sport’s premier international events, attracting the world’s top indoor bowlers.
Blackjacks supporters are encouraged to follow Tayla Bruce and Shannon Mcilroy as they prepare to represent the country with pride on the international stage.
