Every summer Bowls New Zealand hosts National Events in which players are able to compete either as a result of direct entry through high quality or winning performances in their local club or centre competitions. Our Open Events are available to all players to enter regardless of age, experience, gender and ability and provide a competitive celebration of the game of bowls in four disciplines – Singles, Pairs, Fours and Mixed Pairs – and the opportunity to be crowned as the National Champion in any year.

These events are played in different locations around the country each year with a view to providing players with the chance to expand their experience in the game by playing in different climates and on different greens than those that they are used to at home, and to reacquainting themselves with former club mates and sparring partners as well as the chance to meet new friends that share a love for the sport. Typically these events will see between 500 and 750 players from around New Zealand participate in each four day competition.

Our other National Events have been established to provide an annual opportunity for competitive players to represent their respective clubs (National Interclub Sevens, Bowls3Five and Champion of Champions) or centres (National Intercentre) against their peers from throughout New Zealand.
