Bowls+
FAQ's
Points
- Every bowler has the ability to decide whether they want their ranking information to be viewed publicly within Bowls+. If you wish not to have your name listed within Bowls+ then please contact us and we will action the request. Please note that your details will still be used to help calculate your opponent's points but you will appear as 'Anonymous' within Bowls+.
- Every player starts with a points tally of 10,000. Each game an individual plays has points available to be won or lost. The exact number of points depend on the level at which the game is played (eg. Club, regional, national) with greater weightings for higher levels. After each game your points tally will be updated according to the result and this will then affect your overall points tally and ranking.
- Yes, every game you play at every level counts towards your ranking. Remember, you need to make sure that you fill out a game scorecard and include your BowlsHub ID# for every game to help your club administrator enter results.
- Points are weighted depending on the level of competition, with points available to be won and lost increasing from club to centre to national competition. The base level of points for club games are 50 (win or lose), 100 and 50 (win/lose) for centre games, and 200 and 100 (win/lose) for national games.
- The base points for your game remain the same as for singles but your individual points are combined to form a team points total. The formula to calculate the points on offer for each game is the same as singles and each player in the team receives the same points for the game.
- The Bowls+ points system is weighted to take into account whether you are playing someone who is ranked higher or lower than you and therefore the likelihood of you winning the game.
- Consequently there are more points on offer when you are playing someone with a higher points tally than you.
- Similarly, there are less points available when you play someone with a lower points tally than you, but also more potential points for you to lose.
- The Bowls+ points system relies on results being entered into BowlsHub.
- Someone may have a higher points tally than you due to the fact that they have had more games entered into BowlsHub. This may be due to the fact that their centre or club has adopted BowlsHub for their tournaments or have just been using the system longer. You can check how many games are contributing to someone's points total by looking at the Games column on the main Bowls+ page.
- The ranking system requires certain baseline information (BowlsHub ID number) for every game to be able to match it to your record. If that information is absent then the game won’t contribute to your points total. If there are games that you think are missing from your record then contact the BowlsHub administrator at your club or centre or you can get in touch with us here at Bowls New Zealand.
- Results for games or competitions that were not created within BowlsHub need to be manually entered into the system. Contact your BowlsHub administrator at your club or centre to check whether all your games have been entered.
- Your points total is designed to be a reflection of your current playing ability and therefore only results from the last three years are included. Games played within the last 12 months will have a greater points weighting applied, with a sliding scale of weightings applied for older games.
- Last 12 months = 100%
- 12-24 months = 75%
- 24-36 months = 50%
- Yes, there are points at stake in every game and losing means points being deducted from your total.
- Points for all bowlers are updated every Friday and will be live on the website by 4pm.
- Results will be entered into BowlsHub by each club or centre's designated person who will have administrator rights to do so. Remember to make sure you record all participants' BowlsHub ID's on your scorecard before handing it in to be entered.
- Only your Primary Club or Centre will be shown within Bowls+.
- All points gained regardless of the club or centre you are representing will contribute to your points total, however the complexities of displaying information means only your primary club or centre will be visible within Bowls+.
- Absolutely. Bowls+ is designed to be a system that will adapt and evolve to the needs of the bowls community.
- What is live now is version one and we will continue to look to our community to provide feedback that will inform updates to the system in the future.
- If you have ideas for improvements then please email us via the button at the bottom of this page under the Help section.
Grades
- The grading system is designed to give an indication of current skill level for every bowler. Each grade has a points banding which is set out below. Players will move up or down grades as they meet the points threshold for the next grade.
- A1 = 15,000 and above
- A2 = 14,000 - 14,999
- B1 = 13,000 - 13,999
- B2 = 12,000 - 12,999
- C1 = 11,000 - 11,999
- C2 = 10,000 - 10,999
- D1 = 9,000 - 9,999
- D2 = 8,000 - 8,999
- E1 = 7,000 - 7,999
- E2 = 6,000 - 6,999
- F1 = 5,000 - 5,999
- F2 = 0 - 4,999
- To ensure that Bowls+ is accurate and reflective of a players true ability a base level of 50 matches must be recorded within BowlsHub to gain a Bowls+ grading and ranking.
- Prior to reaching this level players will see NA for their grading and ranking information.
- Gradings will help clubs and centres create tournaments for bowlers of similar ability.
Using Bowls+
- Find your name within the rankings by going to the Bowler search box at the top of the table.
- Type your name in the search box that appears once you click on the All button.
- Once your name and details appear you can find out more detailed information about your performances by clicking on your name. This will highlight two buttons for you to choose from: Matches or Statistics.
- Matches will present details of all your games recorded within the system and Statistics will provide a graphical summary of all your performances. If you hover over some of the graphs more detailed information will appear.
- You can easily search for people you know by name. Click into the Bowler search box at the top of the display and you can either select a bowler from the list or type in a name. The system will provide options for you to choose from that it thinks match your search.
- Remember that the person that you are searching for needs to have agreed to their ranking information being made public for it to be viewable by you.
- You can search via any of the four options presented at the top of the table - Bowler, Club Name, Centre, Gender. To do so, just click on one of these Filter options at the top and either type in what you are searching for or select from the drop down list.
- Example: click on the Club Name box and search for a Club. This will bring up details for all publicly viewable members of this club. Then click on the Gender box and select Female. This will then present a list of all publicly viewable records for female bowlers of the club.
- You can also sort your list by clicking on the down arrow visible when you hover over the headings at the top of the table (eg. Bowler, Current Points, Grade, Club etc).
- Click on the first bowler/club/centre you want to select, then hold down the Control key to select as many as you wish. All selections will then appear as a filtered list.
Entering Results
- Results need to be entered into BowlsHub and you will need to be a Club or Centre Administrator within BowlsHub to do so.
- Once you have signed up for BowlsHub then contact Bowls New Zealand and ask to be made an administrator for your club or centre.
- Results for competitions not created using BowlsHub should be entered under Quick Results once you log into BowlsHub. Remember that all players need to have BowlsHub ID's to enter a result.
- All you will need to enter a result is the format, date, player names and score.
- Bowls+ calculates points based on the result of a match so just enter the set score (eg.2-1) as the points for the relevant teams. Bowls+ will take care of the rest!
