Hall of Fame Nomination Process
The Bowls New Zealand Hall of Fame is established to accord recognition to outstanding athletes, coaches and administrators who have made a significant contribution to Bowls New Zealand Incorporated and the game of lawn bowls in New Zealand.
Inductees to the Hall of Fame are to be appointed in accordance with the provisions of the Bowls New Zealand Hall of Fame Charter.
The Board of Bowls New Zealand are pleased to call for nominations for the 2024 inductees of past bowlers, coaches and administrators who have made a significant contribution to the game of Lawn Bowls in New Zealand.
The 2024 nomination process is now open. Nominations close: 5.00pm Wednesday 10th July 2024
Who can nominate an Inductee?
Nominees can be identified in any of the following ways:
- By nomination from a club affiliated to Bowls New Zealand.
- Athletes must have represented New Zealand, and be capped, at the international competition level, be superior achievers, have individual integrity, sportsmanship and good character, and have the support of their peers. Athletes are not to be nominated until five years after they last represented New Zealand; or
- If the athlete played prior to New Zealand competing in international events (men 1934 and women 1973) they must have won more than one national championship, be superior achievers, have individual integrity, sportsmanship and good character, and have the support of their peers.
- Nominees in the General category must have an outstanding and exceptional performance or contribution to Bowls New Zealand or bowls in New Zealand including administration, officiating/umpiring, coaching/training, media/history or sports science/technology and must have individual integrity and good character. Nominees in the General category are not to be considered until three years after they last held an appointment at the national level.
- By nomination from a centre affiliated to Bowls New Zealand.
- By nomination by the Board directly.
- By nomination from any Bowls New Zealand Life Member.
Selection Criteria
The Selection Committee will have regard to the following criteria in determining suitable candidates for induction into the Hall of Fame:
Hall of Fame Selection Committee
The Board of Bowls New Zealand will appoint the selection committee of not less than four nor more than six members; such persons will have the requisite knowledge, experience, competence and integrity to be part of this independent selection process.
Inductees
- Inductions into the Hall of Fame will be considered on an annual basis, with there being no more than two inductees per year.
- Inductees may be drawn from any period, not just the years subsequent to the previous induction.
