Last year’s women’s winners have made up for their slow start to the Summerset National Fours in Central Otago.

Sandra Keith, Clare Hendra, Selina Smith and Tayla Bruce, who were on the brink of an early exit after two losses on the first day of section play, have made quick work of their knock-out games at Alexandra Bowling Club to secure a place in the semi-finals.

Keith’s four needed just 12 of the 18 ends to overcome former Blackjacks coach Sharon Sims 27-8 in the quarter-finals, having accounted for Margaret O’Connor 22-12 in the round of 16.

They will play Dale Rayner for a place in the final after Rayner came from behind to beat Queenstown’s Jane Anderson 19-17 in the last of the women’s quarter-finals at Alexandra.

In the bottom half of the draw at Clyde, 2019 champions Mandy Boyd, Kirsten Edwards, Leigh Griffin and Angela Boyd have booked a last four meeting with Liz Witton.

Boyd’s combination dispatched Linda Milne 25-10 in the round of 16 before dismissing Wendy Jensen 21-7, while Witton’s quartet raced to a 29-7 win over Christine King in the quarters after edging Pam Walker 17-15.

The defending champions are also still standing in the men’s draw, with Gary Lawson, Jamie Hill, Caleb Hope and Sheldon Bagrie-Howley winning through to the quarter-finals at Omakau.

Lawson’s four beat Alister Watson 19-9 in the round of 16 and will face Maurice Symes in the last eight after he beat Ross Gillett 18-7.

Brian Little will face Rob Ashton in the other men’s quarter-final in the bottom half of the draw after they accounted for Rodney Fleming and Patrick Houlahan respectively, also at Omakau.

At Alexandra RSA, Seamus Curtin and Mike Kernaghan won their way through to a blockbuster last eight meeting.

Curtin’s quartet edged Joseph van der Pennen 13-12 in the round of 16, while Kernaghan beat Glenn Murtagh 22-15.

The major upset of the day came at Alexandra, where Michael Soloman downed Blackjack Andrew Kelly 22-7 for a place in the quarter-finals.

Soloman’s combination includes 11-year-old Liam Hill and his grandfather Neville.

They will play Trevor Reader for a place in the final four after Reader’s four beat Rohan Ware 18-13, also at tournament headquarters.

The men’s quarter-finals and women’s semi-finals will get underway at Alexandra Bowling Club at 8:30am, with the men’s knock-out game between Mike Kernaghan and Seamus Curtin to be livestreamed on Sky Sport Next.

It will be followed by the women’s final shortly after midday and the men’s final at approximately 3:30pm.
