New Zealand and Australia’s split the second session in the second Trans Tasman test at Musgrave Hill.
Gary Lawson (skip) and Shannon McIlroy have beaten Aaron Wilson (skip) and Corey Wedlock 18-17 in a thrilling men’s pairs contest, while Ali Forsyth (skip), Mike Kernaghan and Chris Le Lievre have been beaten 19-15 in an equally absorbing triples match. The second men’s test is now level at 2-2 with Australia leading on shot differential.
Australia’s leading 3-1 in the second women’s test after the matches were shared in the second session. Jo Edwards (skip) and Selina Smith won the pairs 20-10, but Australia beat Katelyn Inch (skip), Val Smith and Wendy Jensen 15-12 in the triples.

Kelsey Cottrell raced to a 21-9 win over Jo Edwards in the women’s singles, crashing Edwards’ 50th birthday celebrations, before Australia overturned a 9-3 deficit in the women’s fours to beat Katelyn Inch (skip), Val Smith, Selina Smith and Wendy Jensen 25-10. The Blackjacks women now face the unenviable task of winning the next four matches to level the series.
The men have split their first two matches at Musgrave Hill. Australia’s beaten Ali Forsyth (skip), Gary Lawson, Mike Kernaghan and Chris Le Lievre 19-8 in the fours, but Shannon McIlroy has edged Aaron Wilson 21-17 in the singles. Having won the first test, the New Zealand men are endeavouring to lift the Trans Tasman trophy for the first time in 11 years.
