The all Carlton Cornwall quartet comprising Nick Krajancic, Gojko Bulog, James Williams and Gerard Hurst were in fine form, lifting the silverware at the Remuera Extended Fours competition in Auckland.

First established as the Hugh Wright Tournament in 1946, the event, which is now on the Bowls New Zealand Summer of Bowls programme, has enjoyed a rich history – albeit dropping from four days to two.

With day prizes up for grabs each day and the overall winners’ trophy, 24 teams from all part of Auckland and further afield took to the Remuera greens, competing in three games of 15 ends or two hours each day.

An unwelcome downpour saw play cut short on day one, with play stopped after the second game – however an amended format of four games on the second day saw the competition played out, with all six games completed.

Sponsored by Ryman Healthcare, day one’s action saw the home side of V Johnson, P Bennett, B Johnson and E Bennett take out top spot, with D Bart, David Eades, Graham Cotter and Warwick Frederickson finishing a close second.

Day two’s play saw the St Heliers line-up of D Ball, B Whitburn, D Akaruru and K Beasley run away with the spoils, while another Remuera four N Black, W White, M Smith and J Siebert took out a narrow second spot.

However, it was Krajancic and Co who finished the competition with the best record at the completion of the two days, taking out the overall winners’ spot, while Howick’s Neil Fisher, B Chapman, L Brown and G Cotton finished runner-up.

Rounding out the prizes, St Heliers S Curran, M Posa, J Brown and G Bennett finished third overall, while another Carlton Cornwall quartet, G Lawrence, G Keats, P Blick and B Yoe ran fourth.

With the event successfully completed for another season, all focus now turns to the club’s next major tournament (March 19), the Metlifecare Classic, which will see teams compete in singles, pairs, triples and fours over one day. All entries to;
