Southlander Brian Harvey has completed an amazing Professional Bowls Association qualifier season in Dunedin following up a win in a Ranking singles event in June with taking out both the World Indoor Singles and Pairs qualifying events at the Dunedin Stadium on Sunday. Harvey did not drop a set on the day winning the semifinal and then proving too good for Karl Mason 12-1, 8-3 in the final of the World Indoor Singles, and then went on to win the World Indoor Pairs qualifier with partner Graeme Hislop beating Beth Brown and Geoff Wilson 9-5, 7-6.  Hislop returned to PBA this year after an eight year break and had reached the quarterfinals of six PBA tournaments without getting past that stage until this event. This was the second year that Mason finished runner-up in the World Indoor Singles.

Dunedin’s Brent McEwan will also debut at the New Zealand PBA Finals Weekend in Hamilton next month winning the Dunedin qualifier for the International Singles with a thrilling 9-7, 5-11, 2-1 win over NZ PBA representative Paul King. McEwan’s previous best performance had been a runner-up placing in a World Indoor Singles qualifier in 2017.

This was the second year that the Dunedin branch ran a local finals day due to the popularity of the events and this was again a well-supported affair.

The NZ PBA Finals will be at the Frankton Railway Bowling Club in Hamilton September 13th-15th.
