Bowls New Zealand has reviewed the Guidelines from Sport NZ and MBIE, on how we apply the COVID-19 Protection Framework to our bowling clubs.

Our recommendations below are based upon the guidelines provided by MBIE (https://www.business.govt.nz/covid-19/covid-19-protection-framework/food-and-drink-services/) – this decision reflects the fact that 95% of New Zealand bowling clubs serve food and beverage to customers.

Sport NZ has also provided very useful guidelines for sporting gatherings and events. If your bowling club wishes to operate as a sporting venue without Food & Beverage options, then please contact Bowls New Zealand and we will happily guide you through the Sport NZ guidelines available from https://sportnz.org.nz/covid-19-response/covid-19-protection-framework/

The new COVID-19 Protection Framework:

  1. As I am sure you are aware, the new framework operates as a three level plan (Red, Orange and Green) whereby restrictions are evident at the three levels depending on vaccination status.
  2. It is assumed that all of New Zealand will operate under either the Red or Orange alert level, from Friday December 3rd.
  3. The key to the new framework is the ‘My Vaccine Pass’, which confirms an individual’s vaccination status.
  4. A reminder that all bowling clubs MUST display their NZ COVID tracer QR codes, and record that all those on premises have scanned the clubs QR tracer code (or otherwise recorded who is at the bowling club).
  5. Bowling clubs must display signage in a prominent place near the main entrance, indicating whether customers and / or workers do or do not require a My Vaccine Pass (download poster below).
  6. Bowling clubs should display their vaccination policy (download template below) on their notice board.

Bowling Club Guidelines (if you serve food and drinks to customers)

RED

If My Vaccine Pass is used:

  • Your bowling club may open with up to 100 people and based on 1m distancing (whichever is the lesser) per defined space.
  • Customers must be seated and separated.
  • Face coverings are encouraged while customers are not eating.
  • You must sight all customers’ My Vaccine Passes, and it is strongly recommended you verify these passes.
    • Bowls New Zealand recommends that all club members vaccination pass is verified once and recorded on a membership register, noting their name and vaccination expiry date
    • ALL visitors to your bowling club should have their My Vaccine Pass sighted every time they attend the club.

If My Vaccine Pass is not used:

  • Your bowling club can only operate contactlessly, which effectively means a bowling club cannot open its clubrooms for servicing its customers.
  • Your bowling club may hire your venue to outside groups (e.g. for a corporate Xmas function), but this is limited to 25 persons and you must do a thorough clean of your venue after each hire.

  • Your bowling club may open with no limits on the number of people or the requirement for 1m distancing.

We hope the above assists in your understanding of the new Covid Protection framework, for bowling clubs throughout New Zealand.

Our evidence is that 99% of bowling clubs will be vaccinated sites by Friday 3rd December, i.e., 99% of bowling clubs will require members and visitors to present their ‘My Vaccine Pass’.

We are conscious that this is a constantly evolving situation and will endeavour to provide relevant updates to you all as required.

Chris or I are happy to take any calls or enquiries on this matter.

Stay safe everyone

Nga mihi / kind regards
