Earlier last year the Hutt City Council (HCC) decided they would like to retain the large chunk of land that they have been leasing to the Naenae Bowling Club for the past 70 years.
At the same time, the HCC suggested Naenae Bowling Club merge with Park Avenue to form one entity. In turn, the HCC would construct a $6million bowling and community facility at Midenhall Park in Naenae. The facility is to have one indoor covered green and three outdoor greens, and would become the Hub for bowls in the lower North Island.
Both clubs agreed on the proposal and work commenced.
Despite the latest Wellington weather and initial delays in the instillation of the indoor stadium roof they are this week getting ready for a self-leveling compound to be applied to the constructed base that will provide the surface where the carpet will be installed in the near future.
The Club house has been operational for the past few weeks with TAB, Gaming and meals available along with refreshments to members and has appointed a Club Manager.
The facility is on track to being completed for an initial opening ceremony towards the end of August followed by a function later on which will involve the Bowling community.
The new Naenae facilities are scheduled to be headquarters for three national finals in 2018; National Interclub Final, Under 18 Singles and Under 21 Singles.
