What is a Bowls NZ Gold Star?

Gold Stars were created in 1961 to recognise players who had won five open national championships. A further Gold Star is awarded for every 5 titles won thereafter.

Over the next 53 years, the Gold Star award became rather bloated. Titles such as the national Champion of Champions Singles and national club events were added.

As part of the centenary of Bowls NZ in 2014, a Silver Star was created to recognise those national titles won outside of the national championships and the Gold Star award reverted to its intended purpose; to recognise individuals succeeding at 'The Nationals'.
